The Palestinian Exception to Free Speech

Israel and Palestine Human Rights Watch director Omar Shakir recently spoke at Yale University. As reported by the Yale Daily News (YDN), he discussed the Human Rights Watch apartheid determination in the Israel and Palestine conflict and the fight for academic freedom to engage in human rights advocacy on Israel / Palestine.

Students writing in the YDN note that “students, especially students of color, discussing Palestine invites accusations of hate speech and antisemitism, as well as fear of doxxing and intimidation.” Faculty members and candidates face similar harassment.
